Let me introduce myself:
I’m Melissa Singh, but you can call me Mel 😉
I’m an, Ayurvedic Health Coach, Yogi, & Meditation Teacher and most important I’m a Mama.
You may not know this, but I didn’t always feel vibrant and energized, even though I was vegan.
GASP!
I used to wake up everyday feeling like shit. I’d peel myself out of bed in the morning after pressing the snooze button the maximum amount of times possible to give myself juuuust enough time to make a coffee and race off to yoga.
I would rush in and out of yoga, chugging a post-practice smoothie in my car on the way to work stressed AF because I was running late and stuck in traffic. Again.
Then I would proceed to work for the entire day, spend like $30 on a healthy lunch, a bunch of coffee and snacks at Whole Foods so I didn’t get more tired and hangry. Then I’d get home around 6pm too tired to make a healthy dinner, so I’d throw random things together – whatever I could find – and call it a day.
This cycle became my life, and I began to feel more and more exhausted.
I wasn’t nourishing my body and my mind properly, and my practice began to feel draining.
It wasn’t invigorating me anymore, it felt like it was depleting me. This amazing thing, that had shifted my life for the better in so many ways, felt like it was doing more harm than good.
I didn’t want to stop practicing. That wasn’t on the table.
I wanted to maintain my daily practice AND feel vibrant, abundant and full of life soooo freakin’ bad. I wanted to start thriving, not just surviving.
But here I was in this vicious cycle, with no clear strategy, and seemingly no way out.
What I didn’t know then, that I know now is that it wasn’t the practice’s fault. And, it wasn’t so much WHAT I was eating, but when, how and creating solid daily habits that would make THE difference.
Just going vegan won’t solve all your problems.
After being vegan for a few years I still felt:
- Constantly tired, and borderline burnt out
- Heavy and tired during practice, and completely gassed afterward
- Bloated and uncomfortable in my body
- I wasn’t pooping regularly
- I wasn’t present with my family and friends
- Like I didn’t have enough time
- I started to feel more and more anxious
I’m happy to report I don’t feel that way anymore, I actually feel better now – with an energetic (and oftentimes exhausting) 1 year old, nearing my thirties than I did in my early twenties.
So what changed?
As I began to deep-dive into my Ayurvedic studies, I realized I was doing it all wrong.
I realized that there is no one size fits all approach to our diet – even inside of veganism.
I also realized that making changes in my diet was only one peice of the puzzle. My entire life needed to reflect these changes I was seeking
Step by step I began implementing simple habit change in my life.
I began focusing on not only WHAT I was eating, but how and when I was eating. I shifted how I was approaching my day. I created rock-solid morning and evening routines that set me up for success. I set my life up for success.
And the results were insane. Within just a few months of implementing these changes:
- I started to wake up feeling refreshed and energized – and the energy stayed all day long!
- I didn’t need coffee anymore, I was able to drink it because I wanted it
- I was pooping regularly (hell yea!)
- My mind was calm and clear throughout the day, and it felt like my brain fog had lifted almost entirely.
- I had more energy than I did in my early 20’s even with an exhausting 1 year old!
I’m telling you, I thought that having abundant energy and a calm clear mind was like a Unicorn – a mythical creature that I thought didn’t exist.
